At Tri-County Health Network, we believe health is influenced by factors beyond clinical care. Our commitment to social equity involves addressing the impact of race, gender, sexual orientation, and other identities on health. Through our Multicultural Advocacy team, we strive for diversity, equity, and inclusion by collaborating with organizations and community leaders to ensure accessible, holistic solutions for individual well-being.
Programs
Immigrant Legal Services
It is challenging for our immigrant community to find linguistically accessible legal assistance in a rural setting on their pathway to citizenship. TCHNetwork provides limited affordable legal immigration services through our Department of Justice accredited ILS representatives. Our Spanish-speaking bilingual/bicultural team members are available to assist San Miguel County community members with initial Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) applications, DACA renewals, Green Card renewals, and Naturalization applications.
Community Assistance
TCHNetwork believes that language barriers or immigration status should not prevent our Spanish-speaking community members from accessing the available resources. Our bilingual and bicultural staff can assist with processes such as getting a driver’s license, establishing a P.O. Box, enrolling in health insurance, and finding childcare.
Policy and Advocacy
TCHNetwork has created many committees and groups to create sustainable change in San Miguel County and to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The Latinx Advocacy Committee (LAC) was created in 2016 and is comprise mostly bilingual/bi-cultural direct service staff from local community organizations and Latinx community leaders. LAC has developed strong, trusting relationships with the local immigrant community, due in part to its internal dedication to ensuring that the needs expressed by the Latinx population guide the creation, design, and implementation of our programming.
Alliance for Inclusion (AFI) is comprised of local elected officials and representatives from non-profits, schools, and governmental agencies. AFI provides a system-level perspective on the health inequities faced by the Latinx population and works to address policies and procedures to improve the systems that affect the lives of the Latinx community members.
Latinx Affairs Committee (LxAC) is a group of monolingual and bilingual Spanish-speaking community members who are officially recognized by the Town of Telluride to bring the voices of a traditionally underrepresented group to the decisions made by the Town Council. LxAC was formed with assistance from the Mayor of Telluride to elevate immigrant voices in the community by directly connecting them to local government officials.
Alliance for Belonging (AFB) is comprised of local elected officials and representatives from non-profits, schools, and governmental agencies. AFB provides a system-level perspective on the health inequities faced by the Delta community and works to address policies and procedures to improve those systems.
Workshops
The Multicultural Advocacy Team has thoughtfully designed a series of workshops that help organizations and individuals create a culturally sensitive, welcoming, and healthy environment. The workshops cultivate authentic spaces of belonging, collective empowerment and care. Each monthly workshop serves as an excellent instrument to start an earnest discussion about topics that impact the communities and provide tangible action items that you can apply personally and as an organization.
Liberatory Design Series
Is the United States a salad bowl or a melting pot? What does that even mean? We will explore the definition of culture broadly and individually and its significance.
Breaking Bread and Boundaries
Who is in the driving seat? How did they get there and why does it matter? We will dissect power, how it is distributed, and its impact on marginalized communities.
Know Your Neighbor
Is implicit bias the same as racism? In what ways is your mind conspiring against you when it comes to creating an inclusive environment? We will learn about the brain’s use of heuristics to compartmentalize your surroundings, the impact that has on equity, and how you can fight back.
Healthy Equity Series
This workshop will explore the concept of “Health equity is the interconnectedness between systems & community members to achieve a collective vision of well-being and thriving.”
Participants will leave with an understanding of the power that rests with white people and how to leverage that power to elevate marginalized groups.
Drivers License Program
TCHNetwork believes that language barriers or immigration status should not prevent our Spanish-speaking community members from accessing the resources that are available to them. Over the past six months, the MCA team has worked to get 70 participants their ITIN, meetings with consulates, driver’s ed classes and tests in Spanish, mobile DMV, and more to get their Colorado driver licenses.
