Cooking Matters

What it is

Cooking Matters is a free, evidence-based cooking/nutrition course for adults and families. Classes are held once a week, for six weeks, and teach individuals how to safely prepare and handle food, shop sensibly, and create healthy meals on a limited budget. Participants prepare a meal in each class and receive a bag of groceries to cook the meal at home. To learn more, contact Adrienne at 970-708-7096.

For 20 years, Cooking Matters has empowered families with the skills to stretch their food budgets and cook healthy meals so their children get nutritious food at home.

Attendees will join a hands-on, six-week cooking-based nutrition education program that endows individuals with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to identify and prepare healthy and affordable meals. The curriculum exposes participants to evidence-based nutrition lessons, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and food budgeting. The interactive classroom environment will also encourage participants to share and discuss their knowledge and barriers about adopting healthier nutrition, food shopping and physical activity barriers.

Cooking Matters has been featured by First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign and recognized by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for excellence in nutrition education. The Walmart Foundation is the national sponsor of Cooking Matters.
