Dental Program Expansion
In January 2021, TCHNetwork launched Community Dental Clinics, expanding upon our existing Skippy program for school-aged children. Our community clinics are designed exclusively for Medicaid members and are offered across the region in communities that do not have a dentist who accepts Medicaid.
Virtual Dental Home Model
The Community Dental Clinics adopt the cutting-edge Virtual Dental Home model. Patients receive full preventive dental services that include in-person assessment by a registered dental hygienist, virtual exam by our local contracted dentist, x-rays, cleanings, fluoride, sealants, and oral hygiene education. Our partner dentist provides a virtual exam using telehealth technology allowing her to review all x-rays and images to develop individualized treatment plans for each patient, and ensure they receive any necessary restorative care.
Eliminating Barriers to Care
By providing easier access and a high level of care regardless of socioeconomic factors, TCHNetwork aims to ensure that all local Medicaid and CHP+ members get the dental care they need – and close to home. Lack of access to adequate dental care represents a significant barrier for an at-risk community with too few dentists and pockets of extreme poverty. Our Community Dental Clinics will reduce the percentage of residents who have not seen a dentist and enable Medicaid members to receive the preventive dental care they need.
Community dental clinics serving both adults and children with Medicaid are taking place in Ouray, Telluride, and Naturita during January, February and March 2021.
