Can You Recognize Your Own Biases and Privileges?
Have you ever been in a meeting where you hear a colleague say something and it simply doesn’t sit well with you, but at the same time, you don’t know how to address it? If so, you might want to consider attending or hosting a diversity, equity & inclusion (DEI) training. Our training is a great step for organizations and individuals towards creating a culturally sensitive and welcoming environment. This training serves as an excellent instrument to start an earnest discussion about DEI topics and provides tangible solutions you can apply personally and as an organization.
While we offer plug and play training sessions, we also want to make sure the training is as relevant to your organization as possible. If you would like to discuss a topic that is not included below, do not hesitate to reach out to us. We can work with you to cover subjects that are pertinent to you and your teammates. To make these trainings as accessible as possible, we offer them in person (pending COVID-19 constraints) or over Zoom. We require a minimum of 1.5 hours to conduct the training but can create more time for discussion with 2 hours.
Introduction to Culture – So is the United States a salad bowl or a melting pot? What does that even mean? We will explore the definition of culture broadly and individually and its significance.
Power Structures and Levels of Discrimination – Who is in the driving seat? How did they get there and why does it matter? We will dissect power, how it is distributed and its impact on marginalized communities.
Implicit Bias and Microaggressions – Is implicit bias the same as racism? In what ways is your mind conspiring against you when it comes to creating an inclusive environment? We will learn about the brain’s use of heuristics to compartmentalize your surroundings, the impact that has on equity, and how you can fight back.
